 vintage charm! flea finds: 1. like size handkerchiefs 2. look for pretty floral prints 3. some holes or stains ok other materials: 1. curtain rod 2. fabric (for casing) 3. iron 4. matching thread directions: 1. sew straight hankies between diagonal hankies (points) 2. calculate number of hankies; a) mount rod at window b) straight hankies= multiply rod length by 2 and divide by average hankie size c) point hankies= add 1 to number of straight hankies 3. identify a top edge for each staight hankie and a top corner for each point hankie 4. place a point hankie and a straight hankie with right sides together and stitch sew in pairs (1 point hankie will be unused) 5. join pairs (match right side edge of each straight hankie to left sewing edge of 1 point hankie) and attach the pairs and remaining point hankie to the right end of the valance 6. make a casing with the fabric for the casing; a)lay valance on the wrong side up with top edge straight (point hankies should be toward front of valance) b)measure top edge of the valance and add 1" c)cut a 2 3/4" wide strip the calculated length d)press short edges and then long edges 1/2" to wrong side e)pin casing to along top edge on wrong side of valance f)place valance right side up g)pin and mark lower edge of casing on front of valance h)stitch casing to valance using a 1/4" seam allowance - stitch along top and bottom edges of casing (right side up) i)at each point hankie, backstitch, raise presser foot and clear point hankie from stitching, and continue stitching at next straight hankie, backstitch at the beginning of stitching (clip threads) 7. insert rod and hang tip: chic recycler "flea finds" are found throughout the fleatique house  ask Lee (the flea) for a "flea find" not found in our house!
